SHORT fILM wINNERS
The winners of the Film Festival Short Film Competition, which drew in entries from all over the country as well as locally, were :
First prize:
FLIPSIDE directed by Kira Richards, produced by Amie Rey (based in Bournemouth).
A girl sits in her room where her every action is dictated by the random fall of a dice or the spin of a wheel. A claustrophobic portrait of an obsessive personality and at the same time a chilling comment on the nature of free will in the modern world.
The judges chose Flipside for its disciplined approach and technique and creative use of camera to depict mood and menace in a mundane setting.
Second prize:
MOULDED directed by Pete Gosling (based in Chester)
Moulded uses Lego people in highly inventive and painstaking animated action sequences. A wry and original comment on the treadmill of human life.
In general the jury were impressed by the imagination and technical ability shown in all entries, and are looking forward to the competition being a regular feature of the Film Festival in the future.
